Rainbow Valley
Painting Collection
2017 - 2019
There is a place on the northeast ridge of Mt. Everest that some climbers call Rainbow Valley. It is referred to in this way because of the many brightly colored jackets peeking out of the white snow, which belong to dead bodies that are left on the mountain. There are estimated to be more than 200 bodies left on Everest.
Many of these climbers came from comfortable suburban lifestyles. They are dentists, lawyers and business owners, yet their desire for romance led them to roll the dice on their fate. The dead bodies in these romantic landscapes subvert the concept of manifest destiny. These wild landscapes cannot be easily conquered and transformed into a new social media status despite many earnest efforts.
